Special Attention of Asian Countries to Nanosciences

According to statistics published on Nano Statistics website, the Asian countries have paid special attention to nanosciences to the extent that the share of nanoscience publications in all scientific publications in those countries is increasing as well as the increase in the number of publications in the field of nanoscience.

The concentration of various countries on nanotechnology as a strengthening technology is different. The national priority of nanotechnology can be measured by using various indicators. Local share in the production of nanosciences, which is one of the indicators, is calculated by dividing the number of nanotechnology articles of a country to the number of total scientific articles published in that country. The indicator shows to what extent the scientific society of a country has accepted nanotechnology as a priority.

The following table lists the top 15 countries in the abovementioned indicator in the past three years. The indicator has been calculated for the countries who had published more than 500 articles. According to the table, the Asian countries are more focused on the production of nanosciences because nine countries among the top 15 are located in Asia. Singapore has possessed the first rank in the few past years, and more than 20 % of its publications are related to nanotechnology at the moment. Iran has taken the second place of China in 2012, while South Korea and India possess the next ranks.
